Whew! ~ What a Weekend ~

So Tims parents made the trip down from OH this weekend for the long holiday. It was SO nice! This time I tried to plan things to do during the day instead of waiting till dinner time to go out and about. Two reasons being, AT could get his naps in thus making us ALL have a better time and the other being that it just wouldnt be as crowded out. We had lunch out instead of dinner. It all turned out perfect. Just what we needed.

Saturday we hit up a local favorite (Skippys Hotdogs....I had a Turkey sand) for lunch followed by a stroll through Old Salem. It is one of the first settlements by the Moravians in Winston and we really wanted to see more of it after K&E got married there a few weeks back. We had a great time and even better weather.

Tea Pot that marks the entrance

Historic Homes

The Famous Winkler Bakery.....fresh sugar loaf. Oh My!

Home of the gunsmith

Tim is the pro at strolling. Me...as you can tell Im always behind the camera!

MIL keeping pace

Parts of Salem College, it happened to be Graduation Day.

Cathedral leading to Gods Acre

Gods Acre, Oldest Moravian gravesite in the state. This is truly a peaceful place. Ive always wanted to attend sunrise service here.

Yeah....AT's had enough

So we made it to the square so little man could get out and stretch his legs.

They also give tours by horse drawn carriage. I had no idea!

AT & MiMi

AT & PoPo

Ahhh......grass!

Family shot....why does my hair always look like that in photos????

He's still smiling!

Sunday we decided to head South. If you don't know....we are in NASCAR country around here ;) Well in the past few years vineyards have been popping up every where in NC. Some of the best of them are right here in our back yard. As I found out Sunday this one just might be the best yet. There are tons of perks.

Childress Vineyards is less than 15min from my house, they have music every Sat and Sun from 11-3 as well as tons of little alcoves around to bring a picnic or grab a bottle of wine to share. There are picnic tables as well as tables on the lawn to sit and just chill. Not to mention tons of grass to roam for little ones like mine. We will def be back! We planned to have lunch here but the buffett didnt look the best, so we made the best of it and ordered 2 bottles of wine on empty stomachs! Hows that for a Sunday afternoon ;)

Here are a few pics of the property....pretty impressive for little ole' Lexington huh?

FIL enjoying his Merlot

I concur the reisling is pretty delish!

All in all it was a great weekend. Monday we all just realxed and enjoyed the back porch...Sangria in hand. We savor these few weekend visits we get through the year. Having family far away is so hard but so rewarding when you do get together. We cant wait for this next visit which is in a little less than 5 weeks. The summer is going to be gone bf I blink my eyes.

Weight Update:
This weekend was the best it could be. Im not going to lie I enjoyed myself and just ate what I wanted WHEN it was time to eat.....not just whenever. I went overboard last night with a great dish Tims cousin made....it was SO good....and I had 2 plates. I guess that was the meal that I caved to the most. It was a pasta dish with sausage, asparagus, onions, and cream sauce. So I guess the worst part was the cream sauce and sausage. Pasta is my TOTAL weakness!

I weighed today..I was debating even posting that....not good news to report so I wont waste my fingers time. I am a bit addicted to the scale. I didnt want to be this way but it is becoming a problem. I am going to weigh in tomorrow for my weekly weigh in and stop getting on the scale "just to see" when it isnt the day to do so. I am wondering though if I need to move my weigh day all together to Thursday, since that is technically the end of the week for me. We shall see.

I picked up a pedometer Thursday and wore it all day Sat. Soemtimes I dont think it is picking up my steps when I am upstairs on the carpet. I didnt wear it Sunday or Monday. So I picked it back up this morning. So lets see its already 3:30 and I have only walked a total of 2,505 steps. Pathetic! I sit at work so I can see where this is working against me. I can also see that this motivates me. I am now going to try and get a few laps in around the hospital right after lunch. At least 2 laps, and a trip down the hill to see AT. When it isnt so hot I need to head down to the pond and get a few laps in too. Who knew this little thing could be so eye opening. Hopefully the treadmill this afternoon will kick my number up a bit. It has to....I am ashamed of the number as it sits right now! I would like to eventaully reach a goal of 10,000 steps a day. Something I thought would be easy but apparently it isnt....again eye opening.

So Ill report back in tomorrow on the final number. Fingers crossed the old weekend detox method works.

You will be surprised how quickly you rack up steps on the treadmill! I often come home from the gym with 5000 steps or more!

It looks like you had a great time with the family. Old Salem looks amazing!

I agree - I want to check out Old Salem - it looks awesome!
Don't worry about your weight. I had a pretty bad weekend w/ eating too that I'm sure I gained a few lbs (thus my new "challenge" of trying to find something HEALTHY when eating out, instead of just whatever I want). I'm sure we'll both be back on track after a not so good weekend ...

Childress Vineyards is one of my favorite places in NC. That sounds so silly but for some reason I just love it.

Looks like you guys had a great day!
